Gloria Allred, Sandra Fluke among speakers who say Republican Assemblymember David Hadley is just like Trump, with 17 percent rating from Planned Parenthood and state certificate to fake “Pregnancy Crisis Center”
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Rancho Palos Verdes, CA – Today, Al Muratuschi, candidate for Assembly for the 66th District, joined women’s rights activists Gloria Allred and Sandra Fluke as well as prominent women’s groups such as the National Abortion Rights Action league (NARAL) and the National Organization for Women (NOW) outside the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes. They denounced Republican Presidential candidate Donald Trump’s behavior and comments against women, including allegations in a lawsuit against Trump National Golf Club that he fired women who weren’t “pretty enough.”
“We want our daughter to grow up in a country that respects women, that does not discriminate against women based on their gender, age or appearance. A country with a President that supports equal pay, family leave and child care. A President who supports a woman’s right to choose,” says Muratsuchi.
“I have been a women’s rights lawyer for 40 years fighting to protect women who were sexually harassed in the workplace. In all of those 40 years I have never seen a candidate for President who seems to revel so blatantly in denigrating women,” said Gloria Allred, women’s rights attorney at Allred, Maroko & Goldberg.
They also compared Republican and Tea Partier Assemblymember David Hadley’s record to that of Trump’s.
“Just like Donald Trump, David Hadley likes to pretend that he is pro-choice. But he is lying. He actually has a 17 percent rating from Planned Parenthood,” said Amy Everitt, State Director, NARAL California. “He gave a state-funded state certificate to an extreme anti-choice fake ‘pregnancy crisis center’ in Torrance that is designed to lure vulnerable pregnant women, and lie to them about their reproductive health choices. This, despite the fact that the clinic is violating the law by withholding valuable health information and options from its patients.”
David Hadley’s record on women is just another example of why he is too extreme for this district:
- Voted against bills guaranteeing women equal rights in the workplace (AB 1354)
- Refused to support expanding family leave and child care (SB 406, SB 826)
- Opposed laws guaranteeing the right to breastfeed in public (AB 302)
- Opposed state funding for women’s health care, including mammograms (SB 97 and SB 826)
- Voted to de-fund Planned Parenthood (SJR 19)
- Opposed funding for victims of domestic violence (Sargent Shriver Civil Representation Program – AB 1610)
- Refused to vote for a non-binding resolution establishing Equal Pay Day. (ACR 50)
Muratsuchi represented the 66th Assembly District from 2012 to 2014, and is widely considered the number one priority and opportunity for state Assembly leadership to regain a Democratic seat. Muratsuchi has lived in the South Bay for the past twenty years with his wife and daughter. He is a Deputy Attorney General with the California Department of Justice, a former Torrance School Board member, and a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and UCLA School of Law.
